Dr. SIMONE PATERSON is a new media artist and researcher; she exhibits her work internationally (Australia, Europe and USA). Her installations usually consist of large-scale digital photographic prints, sculptural fabric forms and machine embroidery  as well as interactive new media works and digital video/ animations. Her recent exhibitions include, LAST WORDS in Newcastle Australia and SEW & SO at Artspace Richmond, Virginia, U.S.A with Jennifer Hand and Amelia Salisbury.

 

Simone is an Associate Professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), Virginia, U.S.A where she teaches New Media Art and Theory as well as Motion Graphics and Digital Video. She served as Studio Chair from 2010 - 2013 and is currently the Chair of Undergraduate Studies in Creative Technologies in the School of Visuals Arts, an affiliate of the Human-Centered Design Program of the Graduate School at Virginia Tech as well as a Senior Fellow of  the Institute of Creative Arts and Technology (ICAT).

 

Educated in New South Wales, Australia, she was awarded a PhD in Philosophy/ Fine Arts from The University of Newcastle, in 2005 where her research focused upon cyborg culture. In 1995 she was awarded a Master of Visual Arts from the University of Sydney, Sydney College of the Arts and was the winner of the prestigious New South Wales Traveling Art Prize, which enabled her to travel to Florence, Italy to study traditional sculptural techniques and digital imaging.
