Dreamin Big Art Program

Dreamin Big Arts Program  2022 - 2024

Dreamin Big Art Program Overview
Founded by Dr. Simone Paterson in 2022, the Dreamin Big Art Program offers a year-round afterschool initiative for elementary students at The Melrose Library. Structured seasonally, the program ensures students have continuous creative opportunities throughout the year. A unique aspect is the journey to and from the library, where children engage in movement and somatic activities, making each walk a meaningful part of their experience.

Program Goals
Dreamin Big fosters:

  1. Collaboration over competition: Creating a community-focused, supportive environment.
  2. Originality instead of uniformity: Encouraging students to explore their unique artistic voices.
  3. Courage over criticism: Building confidence in a safe, encouraging space for creative exploration.

Program Highlights
Through art-making, students develop self-awareness, resilience, and decision-making skills. They also contribute to community art projects, such as designing flags for the Daisy Art Parade and creating visual elements for Melrose Plaza, instilling pride and a sense of ownership in their neighborhood.
