ROOT SHOCK, a new media installation at the Metropolitan Community Church of the Blue Ridge, Roanoke, Virginia alludes to the experience of immigration.
A plant may have difficulties when it is transplanted. However, if the plant is thoroughly watered after being moved it will assist the plant to settle into its new location.
With humans when relocating to a new country it is the establishment of a community of accepting friends that will assist in the relocation process.
The performance software, Isadora, provides interactivity.
A camera creates a vector image of the audience, which in turn reveals a video of water behind an image of salt. Salt is installed at the base of the installation inferring that beneath the surface of the earth are mineral deposits to which we shall all return.
