As an artist arriving at a flow state when making is a powerful and satisfying space, a flow state is when you can lose track of time and become completely absorbed in the making. The work in the "Flow State Chakra" collections are representations of meditation, and I found the whole process joyful, relaxing, and very satisfying. As these pieces employ various techniques, I found myself floating in and out of the flow state. These techniques were initial sketch, watercolor, inking, and finally free embroidery on the machine. I found myself most in a flow state while at the machine. Perhaps because as a confident and competent sewer, I could relax as my paper flowed under the sewing machine needle as it moved rapidly up and down. No stress, just let it go! The most helpful method of arriving at a flow state is to drop all judgment and lean into the energetic momentum of the chakra represented. In working this way, I intend that the flow state, the good positive energy imparted into the work, will benefit the collector.
The location of the third chakra or power chakra, MANIPURA is three inches above the navel, at the base of the sternum. Connected to the element of fire, and yellow in color a meditation on this chakra will bring improved self-esteem and a sense of personal power. The embroidery on this piece resembles a flame.
