This series has been my most ambitious embroidery series to date and it has been a huge learning experience. My learning experience has been on many levels and I want to reflect on these levels of learning. Firstly technical, this is the safest to discuss, and although technical knowledge brings this work to life, it is not my reason for making it.
Spiritual learning also takes place while making. The meanings of the chakras I find endlessly fascinating. However, what I learn about myself keeps me producing the chakra pieces. It is not that I find myself fascinating; perhaps I do but not in a narcissistic way. Instead, I see myself as a puzzle. Sometimes the pieces are missing, and this work helps me discover details that I thought were lost or didn't even know I had missing. It's not even that; I know that bringing these pieces into being is a balm because I am responding to a call beyond myself. The inner work, I believe, contributes to a better person who is more at peace and able to make a contribution.
I am of this earth, and the earth and I are one.
I honor and respect our beautiful earth mother. She is my home and holds all wisdom.
